Garden care that starts below the surface

Six jobs, all for beds, borders, shrubs and vegetable gardens. We don't mow or run lawn programs.

  • A garden trowel standing in dark soil beside the board of a raised bed

    Soil report and plan

The first visit. We sample each bed, send the samples to a lab and write a plan from the report.

    • Samples taken bed by bed

    • A written plan in plain words

  • A gardener in overalls and gloves kneels and turns over soil in a garden bed beside a house

    Monthly garden care

One of us visits once a month, April to October, to weed, deadhead, stake, edge and check the water.

    • A card after every visit

  • Hands spreading dark mulch around the base of a newly planted tree

    Compost and mulch

Beds are top-dressed with screened compost and mulched where the report and the plants call for it.

    • OMRI Listed amendments where needed

  • A mixed border of lavender, purple coneflowers and yellow blooms beside a gravel path

    Perennial and shrub pruning

Cut-backs, divisions and shrub pruning at the right month for each plant.

    • Spring shrubs after they bloom

  • Raised wooden beds full of vegetables and flowers in front of a clipped hedge

    Vegetable and raised beds

Soil work and seasonal turnover for raised beds and kitchen gardens, with a plan for what to rest and what to plant.

    • Fall samples for next year's beds

  • A mulched front garden bed with low shrubs behind a wooden picket fence

    Spring and fall clean-ups

A big visit at each end of the season: cut back, clear, mulch and tuck in.

    • Leaf mulch kept on site

How garden care is priced

We don't price a garden from a photo. You get a number in writing after the soil report, and it lists what is in it.

  • What decides the price

The size and number of beds matter most, then what the soil needs and how often you want us.

    • Bed count and size

    • How much weeding and pruning

    • Compost and mulch the report calls for

    • Visits a month

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

It covers the soil report, the written plan, the visit schedule and a list of materials. It leaves out new plants, hardscape, tree work and lawns, which we quote separately.

  • What happens at the first visit

An hour or so with you in the garden, and soil samples bed by bed. We tell you the visit fee when you book, and credit it toward your first month if you sign up for monthly care.

  • How and when you pay

Monthly visits are billed after each visit. Materials are listed on the invoice, not folded into the price of the visit. We take checks and cards.

  • If the job changes

If a bed needs more than the plan says, we tell you first and write the new amount down before we do the work.

  • Materials and who buys them

We buy the compost and mulch and list each one. Plants you choose are bought at a nursery and added to the invoice at what we paid.
